20 Million and Counting: How CJP Instagram Outgrew the BJP and Congress

A party that didn't exist a month ago now has more Instagram followers than the BJP and the Congress. Let that sit for a second.

The Cockroach Janta Party is not a registered political party — it's a caricature of one, born barely three weeks ago. And yet, in a matter of days, the mock outfit amassed more than twenty million Instagram followers, eclipsing the followings of both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress, India's two biggest political entities.

Where it came from

The CJP emerged after India's chief justice reportedly likened government critics and unemployed youth to "cockroaches" and "parasites." Instead of bristling, young India adopted the insult. The account became a rallying point for frustration over the 2026 examination failures — NEET, CUET, CBSE and recruitment tests — and the follower count went vertical.

What the number means

Twenty million is a real signal of cultural reach. It tells you how much latent anger exists among students and the unemployed, and how fast a symbol can travel when it names a feeling people already had.

What it doesn't mean

The party's own 6 June protest at Jantar Mantar drew a crowd far smaller than its online scale would suggest — the eternal gap between the like and the legwork.
